A pterygium is a raised benign wedge shaped growth of the conjunctiva.
A Pinguecula is a yellow-brown elevation of the conjunctiva.
Both are not painful, but at times you may feel some irritation, see redness, or have some tearing. Typically both types forms on people who spend a lot of time in the sunlight and work outdoors.
In some cases they may grow affecting the cornea. If this occurs and vision is affected, surgical treatment is available.
