Avastin or Lucentis
(SEE MACULAR DEGENERATION)
See Macular degeneration for complete details on Macular Degeneration so you may have a complete understanding of information to follow.
It is approximated that fewer than 15% of patients diagnosed with macular Degeneration have the ‘wet’ form of this condition. With the “wet” form of macular degeneration, your Middlesex Eye Physician ophthalmologist may find you a candidate for the Avastin / Lucentis treatment.
Macular Degeneration is a serious condition affecting the central vision. Patients sometimes have new blood vessel growth under the macula which can leak and causes a greater decrease in central vision. When seeing your ophthalmologist, they may dilate your eyes to view the fundus (the back of your eye). If leaking blood vessels are noted, your physician may recommend special testing to determine the level of leaking in the macula and may take pictures. Once testing is completed, you may be scheduled for an Avastin or Lucentis treatment.
Your physician will explain the procedure to you in the office and send you home with a prescription for antibiotic eye drop and give you a packet of information to review with a loved one. Your consent form is lengthy, we ask you to review it prior to arriving for your treatment. We will have you sign the consent form when you arrive for your scheduled visit. You will likely need more than one treatment, depending on the severity.
It is important to inform your Middlesex Eye Physician ophthalmologist of any changes with your Amsler Grid and central vision.
